I try to stay clear of toxic cleaning products these days because with a toddler running around, everything is fair game to touch/eat/play with.
There are lots of “recipes” floating around for homemade cleaning products and I’ve consulted this site for solutions for specific messy problems.
The solution I always have made up is as easy as can be:
Homemade all-purpose cleaner
10 parts water
1 part vinegar
a few drops of tea tree oil
Spray it on, wipe it off!
I use this for everything! Counters, high chair, fridge, bathroom…
I’m currently experimenting with floor cleaners. My wood floor is so dull! I pinned this recipe because if the pictures are accurate, it makes the wood floor shine like… like something spectacularly shiny! It uses water, vinegar, isopropyl alcohol and a few drops of dish soap. I’m testing this one out as soon as I get my hands on a bottle of alcohol (the only alcohol I have is not appropriate for this use, wink wink!).
Do you make your own cleaners? Any tried and tested solutions you would recommend? Do you consult recipes or just experiment?

Hi there! Just got a pingback for the homemade floor cleaner recipe
Just wanted to give a couple points:
The floors in the pic are pretty low-traffic area, so they’re a bit shinier than the rest of the house. But I’ve heard that if you make an enzyme cleaner (steeping orange peels in vinegar for a few weeks), and using that vinegar in the recipe, the natural oils from the orange peels may provide some nice shine. Haven’t tried this yet, but intend to in the future. More info is in the comments on the post.
Also, you can use some cheap vodka in place of the alcohol, if you wish. That goes for most homemade recipes that call for alcohol
Hope that helps! And let me know how it goes!
P.S. I just LOVE the name of your site (and the story behind it) – so sweet!
Awesome! Thanks for taking to time to give me a few pointers! I’ll definitely try the orange peels.. I really just want a shiny, shiny floor! I’ve heard a steam cleaner makes them gleam too but alas, I don’t own one
