Woven wraps for baby

The older Everleigh has become the more I’ve learned about babywearing and I so wish I had this knowledge when she was a newborn!

I’ve recently been reading a lot about woven wraps. They look like a little intimidating, just a long length of fabric that you tie in various positions, though I’m sure once you get past the first few uses it becomes much easier to handle.

The woven wraps are not  stretchy, making them supportive and suitable for newborns and toddlers alike as well as giving you many options as far as carries go. What attracts me to them most is their primitive appeal as well as how comfy they look! Anyone who has worn a baby successfully knows that comfort is so important for the wearer as well as the wearee!

There are some beautiful options for woven wraps out there, take a look…

Girasol Donau

Dolcino Kuba

Storchenwiege Vicky

Didymos Jack

Girasol Earthy Rainbow

I have a Girasol on my wishlist… color TBD!

Have you ever used a woven wrap? Have you used one for an infant in a back carry? That looks amazing!

Do you have a brand you prefer?

Make your own ring sling

20120519-085823.jpg

A couple months ago I made it my mission to make this ring sling. Everleigh was experiencing an especially clingy phase, I think due to some sneaky teeth trying to appear. I couldn’t put her down, not even to pee!

Our go-to carrier is the ERGObaby carrier which I love for many reasons but I was looking for something I could get her in and out of quickly with her on my hip since that’s where she was happiest. The ERGObaby carrier can be used in a side/hip hold but for me it was a little too time consuming getting her in and out, adjusting the straps and such. I much prefer using the ERGO in a front or back hold.

So, using these instructions I whipped one up during an obscenely long, one off nap! It was simple enough and I’m pleased with the results. The one thing I wish I’d done is make the loop that holds the rings in place a little shorter. I think it’d be more comfy (though it’s not uncomfortable now) since the pleats would start closer to the shoulder. This was a fault of my own, not the instructions, it clearly shows how long that loop should be, apparently I just wasn’t paying attention.

It’s also a little long. I used 2.5 yards of fabric and when I’m wearing her, the tail almost reaches my knees! (I’m 5’5″)

That’s an easy fix though, so I’ll be hemming that when I get a moment.

I bought my fabric here in Denver at Fabric Bliss and the rings from the widely recommended SlingRings.com.

Have you ever made/worn a ring sling? Or, have you ever accomplished something amazing in those elusive long nap times?

ERGObaby ZEBRA!!!

Carrymeaway.com appears to have some top secret information regarding a new ERGObaby carrier that doesn’t even seem to be on the ERGObaby website yet, and that new carrier looks like this….

WHEEEEEEEEEEE!

ZEBRA!

SUH-NAZZZZZZY!!!!!

I’m sure ERGObaby will be announcing this new print this month, along with “Lattice” a neutral taupe that isn’t floating my boat but maybe it will float yours?

Opinions: What do you think of the ZEBRA?! I kind of love it!

The image also features ERGObaby’s new logo which looks much more professional and dare I say it, hip, than the previous one.

So tell me, what do you think?

ERGObaby new color – Outback

ERGObaby just introduced a new color in their ERGObaby Original Carrier…

Outback!

I hate the name but I kind of love the color!

As much as I think the bright patterned carriers are fun, I have to admit I prefer the neutrals like this one, the black/camel, dark chocolate and navy.

What do you think of this new color? Are you a play it safe Sally, sticking with neutrals or do you go all out with color and print?

There are so many beautiful bright carriers out there, I hope to compile a list to post soon!

Burt’s Bees Sunscreen

Somehow I forgot to include Burt’s Bees Sunscreen in my baby sunscreen post, which is silly because we love their products! On Everleigh I use the body wash and lotion religiously, as well as their diaper ointment and baby oil (which smells so delicious!) on occasion. For myself, I use the hand salve, the hand creme and I have 264850 lip balms stashed around the place. I love them!

As far as sunscreen goes, they have the Baby Bee SPF 30 Sunscreen Stick ($10) for the little ones:

For the mamas and papas they have a Burt’s Bees Chemical-free Sunscreen, SPF 30 ($15):

So there we have it! What Burt’s Bees products do you use? Until I made this list I honestly didn’t know we were such big fans of BB!
